A popular bar in the heart of Johnson City that’s been closed for awhile is planning to resume operations soon.
Giblin’s Irish Pub at 256 Main Street closed several weeks ago for renovations in preparation for a possible sale.
Owner Billy Giblin said the sale didn’t go through but he decided to reopen the establishment after a “much-needed rest.”
Giblin opened the pub a couple of decades ago after wrapping up his career as a firefighter in Johnson City and Endicott. He’d been looking forward to relaxing after working for so many years.
This week, he posted an announcement on social media that Giblin’s would be back in business soon. He said he’d be hiring bartenders and cooks.
Giblin’s told WNBF News that he plans to reopen the pub on June 27. He said the place will be open from Tuesday through Friday.
The pub’s walls are lined from many fire departments. The establishment has been popular with firefighters and police officers since it opened.
While Giblin is looking forward to seeing familiar faces again when the bar reopens, he will be seeking other offers to buy the business.
