Tottenham are reportedly growing in confidence they can sign Southampton star Gavin Bazunu, with a surprisingly low fee set to be accepted by the relegated Saints.
The north London giants have endured a hugely-disappointing season that has seen them already on to their third manager of the campaign. And Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa means they are now nine games on the road without a win, seeing the club slip to seventh in the Premier League table.
Having played in the Champions League this season, Spurs could end up with the UEFA Conference League at best in 2023/24 as things stand.
Clearly their squad needs major surgery. But before any signings can be brought in, the club also needs to formalise the appointment of their next manager.
Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann was reportedly top of Daniel Levy’s list to fill the vacancy. However, a respected Tottenham insider has revealed that talks for the 35-year-old are now over with Spurs having to look elsewhere.
That leaves Oliver Glasner, Arne Slot and Xabi Alonso as potential candidates.
All the same, Levy is seemingly intent on pressing on with the club’s summer business regardless of whom the next manager may be.
And his plans to recruit a new No 1 goalkeeper to succeed Lloris are seemingly gathering pace.
Lloris has been at Tottenham since summer 2012 and a bargain £11m move from Lyon. Now in his 11th season with Tottenham, the iconic Frenchman has made a whopping 447 appearances.
While his reputation as one of the club’s best-ever imports is not in doubt, his long-term future very much.
However, he won’t be short of offers with a hugely-lucrative transfer seemingly on the cards.

Spurs ready to pay bargain fee to secure Gavin Bazunu transfer
Having lost his place in recent weeks, it seems Lloris may have already played his final game for Spurs.
And reports over the weekend revealed that Tottenham are now focusing on Saints star Bazunu as his replacement.
The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper has enjoyed a solid season with Southampton, despite being unable to prevent their demise from the Premier League.
With relegation confirmed, it soon emerged that Bazunu could be the first departure of their drop to the second tier.
Now Football Insider can reveal that a bid in the region of £15m could be enough to seal his signature.
They write that Levy sees Bazunu as a solid candidate to succeed Lloris as Tottenham No 1 next season.
And with Fraser Forster staying on as deputy, Levy believes he may soon have a long-term solution in place.
Per the report, Levy sees Bazunu as fitting the profile of player Spurs are looking to attract. They want to sign young, hungry and talented stars, capable of reaching the next level under their next manager.
Bazunu moved to St Mary’s last summer in a £12m deal from Manchester City. He has just five clean sheets from 32 Premier League appearances, conceding 61. However, he’s not seen as culpable for their demise.
Tottenham are also reportedly keen on his Saints teammate James Ward-Prowse, though the England man could cost up to £50m.
