The Australian Hellenic Choir will hold a concert tilted The Golden Age of Greek Cinema on Sunday, 18 June 2023 at 4.30pm at the Ritz Cinema in Randwick, Sydney.
The Choir will bring to life the greatest movie hits from Greek cinema from that era and its legendary stars. The vibe and culture created during this period nurtured a generation of renowned composers, lyricists, singers and actors.
The President of the Choir, James Tsolakis, said: “The Choir will be performing some of the best known songs from the Golden Age of Greek Cinema, along with targeted movie scenes featuring such famous names as Aliki Vougiouklaki, Dimitri Horn, Sophia Loren, Tolis Voskopoulos, Tzeni Karezi and Melina Mercouri.”
The Choir’s Music Director, Leon Vitogiannis, has collated a program showcasing music pieces that played a pivotal role in the cinematic world of Greece.
“The idea of this concert bears resemblance to the era of silent film screenings, where in the realm of silence, it was music that spoke in the theatre,” Mr Vitogiannis said.
“Melodies and harmonies become the poets, expressing the profound depths of the human condition. This is the first time this has been attempted in Australia, so we are very excited about this concert.”
The interactive movie has been crafted by award winning Director Ms Eirini Alligiannis. Internationally acclaimed for her short documentary Louie (Kr.One) Gasparro 5POINTZ, Ms Alligiannis has taken original movie clips to create a continuous movie amalgamation that will thrill the audience.
The Australian Hellenic Choir is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual group formed to bring the best music of the world to Australian audiences. Being a not-for-profit organisation, net proceeds will be distributed to several charities within the Greek community.
“Following on from our highly successful cross-cultural Mauthausen Concert in October 2022, this event will also be a sell-out,” Mr Tsolakis said.
