It won’t come as a surprise to Australians but now the world knows it too – we have the world’s best beach.
Western Australia’s Lucky Bay rocketed to top spot in Banana Boat’s annual World’s 50 Best Beaches list thanks to its natural beauty levelled up by snow-white sand and its inviting, turquoise water.

For those looking to relax, dive, canoe or walk some trails, the pristine 5km stretch in Esperance, on the state’s south coast, was considered “absolutely the best in the world”.
The friendly kangaroos on the beach are a pretty nice addition too.
“Lucky bay is not only the most pristine beach you’ll ever lay eyes on, it has resident-friendly kangaroos that visit the beach daily,” popular travel creator Helen Janneson-Bense said.
“They are wild kangaroos though very tame and you’ll easily be able to snap photos with them.”
The breathtaking Anse Source d’Argent in Seychelles, off the east coast of Africa, was voted into second spot thanks to its granite boulders, pinkish sands and crystal clear water.
Rounding out the podium was Hidden Beach, in the Philippines. The secluded location is “tucked away behind towering limestone cliffs” and is only accessible by boat.
Three other Australian beaches made the top 50: the remote and “impeccable” Whitehaven Beach in Queensland (4), WA’s snorkelling-friendly Turquoise Bay (17) and Little Hellfire Bay (28), near top spot’s Lucky Bay in WA.
The list was pulled together with contributions from more than 750 of the world’s leading travel influencers and experts.
Beaches were ranked according to untouched nature, remoteness, how swimmable it is, annual days of sunshine, and average annual temperature.
“Our study comes at a time when many travellers are dreaming of that perfect summer beach vacation,” list co-founder Tine Holst said.
“It’s a unique way of uncovering hidden gems that are often overlooked by the travelling public and provides the perfect inspiration for a beach vacation.”
