An “emotional” auction in Melbourne’s northwest attracted a crowd of 70 people who watched a local family score a $105,000 bonus under the hammer.
Vendor Helen Prodromos has lived at the 9 Maddingley Rd, Attwood, home for the past eight years with her family after they built it themselves about 10 years ago.
Ms Prodromos said they designed the three-bedroom pad to “last years and years” with an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area adding to its appeal for home entertainers.

“When we entertain in winter everyone sits around the fire and watches TV and has a nice glass of wine in the lounge room,” she said.
Five buyers showed up to compete at the home’s auction on Saturday, but the keys ultimately went to a single mother who pushed offers $105,000 over the $1.25m reserve, resulting in a mega $1.355m sale.
Ray White Gladstone Park auctioneer Malek Younan said it was an emotional sale, adding that the vendors would use the extra cash from the auction to renovate their new home.
“We’ve been working with this local family for 17 years, and what we love the most is the trust they gave our team when it came to selling their well-maintained, family built home,” Mr Younan said.
The vendors were now gearing up to downsize and renovate closer to the city, with Ms Prodromos noting this would be their sixth move.
“We’re movers, we get itchy and end up buying and renovating,” she said.
“I think we’ve got two more moves until our final destination.”
PropTrack data shows they initially purchased the property in 2013 for $350,000.
It features polished timber floorboards throughout, with a living room joining the spacious main bedroom with a stylish ensuite and walk-in wardrobe near the main entrance on the ground floor.
Further in, a home office leads into the kitchen, which boasts a luxury feel with granite benchtops, dual Siemens ovens and a butler’s pantry.
The adjoining dining room opens out to an undercover entertaining deck overlooking the low-maintenance garden and back yard.
Another lounge room with a wood fire is also found on the ground floor alongside a second bedroom, while a third bedroom with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe is located upstairs with a teenage retreat or fourth bedroom.
