Specialist police have swooped on a Lara property as part of a targeted raid, seizing a large quantity of drugs.
Stunned residents have described witnessing “all out action” on their normally quiet street as heavily armed detectives pounced on Friday morning.
Officers wearing bullet proof vests and carrying a door ram could be seen circling the Buckingham St address.
A makeshift hydroponic cannabis lab was uncovered inside a room of the home.
Victoria Police Leading Senior Constable Adam West said detectives from the Geelong Divisional Response Unit executed the warrant.
“Inside the property it is alleged police located a number of cannabis plants,” he said.
“No person was at the property and the investigation is ongoing.”
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said “guns were drawn” as he left his home at 7.45am.
“I noticed police on foot wearing vests across the road as I was getting in my car,” he said.
“There was about six police officers at the front door, guns were drawn, it was quite shocking to see.”
Detectives were still extracting large brown hessian bags from the property at 2.30pm on Friday, along with other evidence.
Another neighbour said the police presence was “very unexpected”.
“It’s not something you want to happen next to you,” he said.
