The new facility, which will include a 25-metre pool, warm water pool and learn-to-swim pool, will occupy a huge swathe of land at the corner of Melbourne and Cox Road in Norlane.
It will also feature a multi-purpose community performance hall to take the place of the existing Centenary Hall.
Mayor Trent Sullivan said construction had now passed the half-way mark.
“The facility is really starting to take shape now,” Cr Sullivan said.
“It’s so exciting to see the progress and to start to imagine the community coming through the doors next year.”
Waterslides, a steam room, childcare facilities and extesive outdoor public open spaces will also feature, along with a mezzanine level gym overlooking the aquatic facilities.
Tiling of the 25-metre pool is about to begin, with a waterplay area and play structures due for installation soon.
With Norlane Waterworld set to close next month, members will have access to a “pop-up” gym at the Corio Leisuretime Sports Precinct on Anakie Road, and access to the city’s other swim and sport facilities at Splashdown, Kardinia Aquatic Centre, Leisurelink and the Lara Swimming Pool.
