- Victor Island covers 3.14 hectares
- Several other islands came to market in April
- The property is a 10 minute boat ride from Hay Point Marina
Private islands remain the flavour of the quarter, with an exclusive Whitsunday destination coming to market.
The listing comes amid several other luxury and resort listings across the second quarter of this year. April saw Pumpkin Island come to market, located on the Great Barrier Reef. A Fijian resort that was practically a private island (occupying 29.9 hectares of the 30 hectare island) was also listed, and a unique cattle station on the fringe of the Great Barrier Reef also began to garner attention.
Last year also saw unique offerings come to market – Pig Island in the middle of Shoalhaven River was one, and Lindeman Island, also in the Great Barrier Reef.
Whitsundays prices rally
In August last year, property prices in the region rose by 25% from the 12 months prior.
The Whitsundays saw 53 transactions in excess of $1 million each from the start of 2022, through to August the same year.
Comprising 74 islands off Queensland’s northeast coast, the region broke records in 2021 with the sale of 75 properties for prices in excess of $1 million.
A previous listing The Property Tribune covered includes the site of the former Hook Island Wilderness Retreat.
Victor Island listed
Covering 3.14 hectares, the property girt by white sandy beaches enjoys access to coral reefs and is home to a fully furnished, four bedroom, two bathroom beach house.
Brought to market by Colliers and PRD Real Estate Mackay, Colliers‘ Queensland Managing Director in Cairns, Stacey Quaid, it is a unique opportunity.
“This is a very rare opportunity to secure an exclusive private island in the Whitsundays under a recently commenced 25 year Queensland Government lease,” Quaid said.
“The island offers a sense of seclusion, while also being only a 10 minute boat trip to Hay Point boat ramp on the mainland.
“The island’s location offers a perfect balance between seclusion while still being in accessible proximity to the mainland making it an ideal getaway for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life while still having access to the conveniences and attractions of nearby Mackay.
“The island has the capacity to be predominantly self-sufficient with the ability to harvest rain water and solar power systems to supply electricity.
“The quaint, private island is nestled within the pristine waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and is part of the 74 islands that make up the iconic Whitsundays.
“Whether you are looking for a private retreat, a space to entertain guests or looking to further capitalise on the iconic Coral Sea surroundings, Victor Island has so much to offer,” Quaid added.
PRD Real Estate Mackay Managing Director Greg Chappell said Victor Island could be reached from its nearest major centre, Mackay, located in the Whitsundays.
“Mackay Airport has direct flights from Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Melbourne, providing direct access to the world.
“The island has a beach house with sparkling pool, caretakers cottage and work shed, and is accessible by boat or helicopter.
“The island comprises landscaped gardens, eco-style accommodations and supporting infrastructure, as well as rainforest covered flat to rolling terrain, with walking tracks as well as sandy beaches and stretches of rocky coastline.
“The house offers postcard views over the landscaped gardens and Coral Sea.
“The residence offers spacious open plan living, dining and kitchen area overlooking the expansive outdoor entertaining space.
“Recently refurbished, the layout of the home has been thoughtfully designed to offer a sense of space for its guests while still being able to embrace the stunning blue water views and surrounds of the island,” Greg Chappell added.
The property is held under a lease from the Queensland Government which runs through until 28 January 2034.
The property is being offered for sale by expressions of interest closing Thursday 15 June at 4 pm (AEST).
