Another new housing estate in Bulkington could be approved. It is being recommended that a housing estate, with 149 homes at the rear of 46-80 Coventry Road in the village, is given the go-ahead.
But it will be members of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council’s planning committee who will have the final say on whether the proposal, which has been submitted by Vistry West Midlands and The Official Custodian For Charities on behalf of Bond’s Hospital Estate Charity. It is one of two developments proposed in the village that will be debated on Tuesday night.
The other is for plans for up to 230 homes on land at Lancing Road with access off Nuneaton Road and Bramcote Close. In regards to the Vistry West Midlands application for land off Coventry Road, there are 11 objections from nine addresses. These were over increased traffic and congestion, loss of wildlife habitats, concerns it could ‘destroy the character of Bulkington village’ as well as worries over traffic and the impact on local services.
The report explains that Warwickshire County Council highways has not expressed any objections to the proposals but asked that the developer makes contributions to works in the wider area to help fund a toucan crossing on Bedworth Road, a dedicated cycle route long the B4029 between Bulkington and Bedworth and contributions towards improvements to the Rugby Road / Withybrook Road corridor.
Following archaeological fieldwork, the county council’s archaeology team say that the proposed development is unlikely to have a significant archaeological impact, and they have no objections. When it comes the landscape and character of the area, the report states: “The proposals would have an impact on the landscape character of the area, but it is not considered that this would be significant. “
The final decision will be made on the application, as well as the other proposed development, during the planning meeting in the council chamber at the Town Hall on Tuesday night (June 13).
