Beverly – Anna (Anne) C. (McFarlane) Flaherty, 95, died peacefully May 28, 2023, at Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Leonard F. Flaherty. She was born in Boston to the late James E. and Anna (Flanagan) McFarlane.
She was a graduate of Saugus High School and Regis College. After college, she was employed at General Electric where she worked on one of the first mainframe computers and following the birth of her first child, she embraced her life’s mission as a devoted wife and mother.
Anne was a faith-filled woman who was a communicant at St. John the Evangelist Church. She liked nothing more than being at family gatherings. She especially enjoyed attending her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s various sporting events and other activities. She was a whiz in Mathematics and not only tutored her own children and grandchildren with their Math homework but also served as a volunteer tutor at St. John the Evangelist School. Anne was a lifelong and avid sports enthusiast and, in particular, a devoted fan of Boston College football. She also attended the Beverly Senior Center where she participated in exercise classes and the game of Bridge and in her quieter moments, enjoyed reading, knitting, and crossword puzzles.
Anne is survived by 9 children: Mary Carlucci and her husband. Joseph of Beverly, Catherine Flaherty and her husband, Edward Sanders-Bey of North Attleboro, Edward Flaherty and his wife, Lorraine of Denton, Texas, Jane Keilty and her husband, Daniel of Liverpool, New York, Carol O’Neill and her husband. Michael of Beverly, Judith Hanlon and her husband. Robert of Beverly, Michael Flaherty and his wife, Susan of Boxford, Timothy Flaherty and his wife, Anne of Beverly and Ruth Flaherty of Beverly.
She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; Patrick Carlucci, Nicholas Carlucci, Ryan Carlucci, Timothy Flaherty, Matthew Flaherty, Killeen Keilty Pritchard, Kevin Keilty, Kalee Keilty Morais, Christopher O’Neill, Kerry O’Neill, Sean Hanlon, Conor Hanlon, Michelle Flaherty, Brendan Flaherty, Mary Cate Flaherty, Bryan Flaherty, Kevin Flaherty and 14 great-grandchildren; Braden Pritchard, Karsen Pritchard, Delany Pritchard, Jack Morais, Shae Morais, Ava O’Neill, James O’Neill, Bridgette O’Neill, Peter Carlucci, Luke Carlucci, Claire Carlucci, Rose Carlucci, Elizabeth Carlucci, and Anna Carlucci. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Anne was predeceased by her much beloved husband, Lenny, her sister, Frances Sullivan and her husband, Daniel, her brother-in-law, George Flaherty and his wife, Marian, and her sister-in-law, Ruth Flaherty Murray and her husband, Lloyd as well as her parents and grandparents.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, Beverly, 111 New Balch Street on Monday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Sunday, June 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
