LCDR Robert Baxter Andies, US Navy Retired, age 86, of Jacksonville, FL passed away on June 9, 2023 after a brief illness. Robert was born in Maryville, TN in 1937. He enlisted in the Navy in 1958. He started his career in Aviation Electronics at Pax River, MD. He served on the USS Essex, the USS Saratoga, the USS Forrestal, the USS Carl Vinson, and the USS Coral Sea. He ended his career at COMNAVAIRLANT in Norfolk, VA in 1991, after 33 years of illustrious service. Throughout his career, Robert was awarded many commendations, awards, and medals. After earning a bachelor’s cum laude degree from St. Leo’s College, he rose to the rank of Warrant Officer and retired as a Lt. Commander. Robert was an accomplished musician. He played harmonica, guitar, banjo, and piano. He was also a gun enthusiast and belonged to the Manville Gun Club of RI for 13 years. He was a proud member of the American Legion and served in many capacities. In 1963, Robert met and married Olive Robinson Enright of Providence, RI and adopted her 9 yr. old daughter Debra. After retirement, they settled in Warwick, RI to be close to family. Robert and Olive were married for 57 years. Upon Olive’s death in 2020, he decided to relocate to Jacksonville, FL to be close to his daughter, Debra Andies Baisch and her family. Robert is survived by Debra and her husband Dewitte “Sandy” Baisch. A gathering will be held 2-4 pm Sunday, June 25, 2023 at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home, 3600 Third St. So. Jacksonville Bch, FL.
