Slated to coincide with the society’s annual general meeting, the event begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, at the Mitchell Golf and Country Club.
The evening will include a business meeting and an awards ceremony, followed by light refreshments and live music as a show of gratitude to the society’s many volunteers. The guest speaker for the meeting and appreciation event is Cathy Barrick, the CEO of the Alzheimer Society Ontario, who will share highlights from the provincial agency’s work and its Landmark Study, a microsimulation study it undertook to project the number of people who will develop dementia over the next 30 years in Canada.
The celebration comes after the first 12 months of the merger between the Alzheimer societies of Perth and Huron counties.

“The past year has been one of dedication and hard work, as the new organization has grown stronger and been better able to serve those living with dementia and their care partners,” society officials said in a media release. “The Alzheimer Society Huron Perth is committed to continuing to provide local and enhanced services throughout our region, and is grateful to all those who have supported the organization along this journey.”
The newly merged society has seen a number of highlights during its first year, including a greater reach and availability of its programs, services and educational efforts across Perth and Huron counties. The merger allows for a streamlining of systems in place, reducing duplication, while clients have remained the focus.
