The Albany Netball Association is sending the biggest contingent of teams to compete in the Fuel To Go and Play Association Championships played this weekend at the Matthews Netball Centre in Perth.
Albany will be represented by 10 teams including one open division squad along with two teams in each of the under-20, under-16, under-14 and under-13 categories while also sending one under-12 team.
The ANA have sent an additional under-20 team from last year’s championships.
The event will run from Saturday until Monday with the opening ceremony taking place on Saturday morning.
The ceremony begins at 8am with flag bearers Casey Greay and Daisy Stewart-Morgan representing the ANA.
Selection trials were held in October last year with squads being selected and the final teams announced in April.
Games will finish at 3pm on Saturday to give players, coaches, managers, umpires, and spectators the opportunity to attend the West Coast Fever and Sunshine Coast lightning match being played at RAC Arena on Saturday.
Play will resume at 8am Sunday with the finals being played on Monday afternoon.
The ANA open team in 2022 finished in fourth place of the division-one standings after recording one win, three losses and a draw.
This competition, which has been running since the 1950s, will feature more than 300 teams from across 40 associations ranging from as far south as Esperance to Karratha in the north.
“The Fuel to Go & Play Association Championships are a great opportunity to see the wealth of talent that we have across WA with teams travelling from near and far to compete over the long weekend,” Netball WA general manger Beth Harvey said.
“It is brilliant to see people coming together to support West Australian Netball and I would like to extend a huge thank you to the amazing support we receive from volunteers, coaches, umpires and officials who assist in running this event.
“Association champs is an important chance for us to develop and identify talented players, coaches and umpires and ensure the WA Netball Pathway continues to produce talent, at the same time as providing opportunities for our members to be exposed to another level of competition.”
