ALBANY – A major Capital Region medical practice has suffered a cyber breach in which patient Social Security numbers and other personal information may have been compromised.
Managers at Albany ENT & Allergy Services say they don’t believe that any fraud or misuse resulted from the incident.
But they are offering free credit monitoring to people who have been affected.
Patients of the practice, which has offices in Albany and Clifton Park, are being notified by mail.
Around March 27, 2023, Albany ENT & Allergy Services, or AENT, became aware of suspicious activity on its computer network. It launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party computer forensic specialists to determine the nature and scope of the breach.
Investigators determined an unauthorized actor may have had access to computer systems that stored personal and protected health information between March 23 and April 4.
In addition to Social Security numbers, patient birth dates, addresses, medical histories and treatments may have been compromised.
The practice is offering credit monitoring through the Kroll security firm. That service will include alerts when one’s credit status changes as well as consultation on protections against cyber fraud.
For more information, people who may be affected can call 1-866-547-0559 between 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.
