ALBANY — The Albany County Business Hub has officially opened in downtown Albany, providing what officials describe as a one-stop shop for businesses throughout the Capital Region by streamlining communication between regional economic development groups.
The new office, located at 111 Washington Ave., will house the Advance Albany County Alliance, which was established in 2020 to serve as an overarching economic development body for companies looking to do business in the county. It will also be the home base for the Albany County Land Bank, Industrial Development Agency, Capital Resources Corporation and Business Development Corporation.
“I am so proud that for the first time ever, Albany County has created a single hub for all of the county’s economic development activities,” said Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy in a statement, who called for the alliance’s creation two years ago to make the region a more attractive place for businesses to relocate.
As the county’s official economic development agency, the alliance has made significant investments in local businesses that support decarbonization, renewable energy and manufacturing. Last year, the organization helped Plug Power, a local fuel cell maker, secure a site for its 400,000-square-foot facility in Slingerlands.
“Our new office space will allow us to better serve the businesses and communities of Albany County,” said Alan Goldberg, board chair of the Advance Albany County Alliance, in a statement. “We are grateful to the Albany County Land Bank for their partnership and support. Together, we can make a real difference in the economic development of this region.”
The Albany County Land Bank, a nonprofit dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods by addressing vacancies across the region, will collaborate with the alliance to help target distressed properties and attract new businesses.
