Manchester United is in the process of being sold and one of the candidates to buy the Red Devils is Qatari Sheikh Jassim Ben Hamad Al Thani.
Rumors over the last few months have surfaced over Qatar Sports Investments’ involvement with Al Thani’s quest to become the new owner of Manchester United.
However, Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi broke his silence on the issue to deny any substantial involvement by explaining that he simply played the adviser role.
“You make me laugh, to be honest,” Al-Khelaifi said (h/t Canal Supporters). “Of course, I am Qatari. I am often questioned by different European clubs about investments, etc. … Of course, I would give my opinion if asked; I would do it for anyone, not just Manchester United. (…) PSG is my club; it’s in my heart. There’s nothing else.
“As president of the ECA, I would love to have better competitions and, therefore, better clubs. In France, if someone came to me to ask me questions like these, I would also answer, expressing my point of view on such and such a thing. I want what is best for France, for all the Championships and all European competitions.”
QSI has begun the process of purchasing minority stakes in various clubs to expand its profile. Nonetheless, PSG’s ownership hasn’t gone into a full takeover as they did in 2011 when QSI became the new owner of the French giants.
It will be interesting to see who wins the Manchester United race as, along with Al Thani, British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe is also in the mix to be the new owner at Old Trafford.
