Published by Mayo Books Press in Castlebar, the biography, ‘Lord Mayo – Tibbott-ne-Long Bourke, Son of the Pirate Queen, 1567-1629’ – explores the fascinating life of the first ever Lord Mayo, son of Gráinne Uaile, who lived through one of the most traumatic and convoluted periods of social, political and military turmoil and change in Ireland. He was bold, ambitious and possessed a Machiavellian mind that outwitted his opponents, both Irish and English. It incorporates original 16th and 17th century manuscript material and also explores new information on the controversy that surrounds the title to this very day. Refreshments served and all welcome.
