ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police are investigating after 30 cars were broken into at East End Garage and 15 cars were broken into around Werner Park near Cobbs Hill.
Officers on Thursday are still working to get in touch with some of the owners of the cars damaged at the garage on East Main and Scio streets. RPD Lieutenant Greg Bello said the recent car break-ins are frustrating and worrisome.
“These are all people that are working, paying for those cars, and now have to go through this,” Bello said.
Dozens of car owners had a rude awakening Thursday after their car windows were smashed in the middle of the night.
Broken glass came from cars police say were parked there overnight. During the week the garage is a popular place to park for students living nearby.
As police continue their investigation, over a dozen more cars windows were damaged on less than two miles away on Werner Park. Residents there woke up to find their car windows busted, but nothing of value stolen.
“I had cash, valuables, electronics, and none of it was touched, ” says Rochester resident Abbie Miller. “Just kind of seems like violence for violence sake.”
“It’s really sad that the whole street got hit,” says Rochester resident Peter Niebanck. “When I came out everybody was out cleaning their cars, and everybody looked upset.”
Investigators are reviewing video taken at the garage and looking for witnesses in both areas. Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call 911.
