In a devastating move, ABC will axe its 7PM local TV news broadcast and replace it with a national news bulletin from Sydney.
This means every state and territory in Australia will lose its local 7 pm television news broadcast on Sunday, with the half-hour news coming from Sydney instead.
The shocking decision comes after ABC’s sensation move to sack its national political editor Andrew Probyn.

Former ABC political editor and commentator Peter Kennedy says if the move is confirmed, it will be a “sad day” for local journalism.
“If the local news on Sunday is axed, it’s a sad day from Western Australian news coverage,”
“It means the Sydney office is deciding what news the rest of the country will get.”

Meanwhile, ABC also announced the possible comeback of Stateline, a state-based weekly current affairs program.
Other plans including digital transformations to news and programming are also announced as audiences shift away from TV and Radio.
A spokeswoman from ABC confirmed to WAMN News that the new national 7PM newscast on Sunday will not be broadcasting out of the Ultimo HQ, and “the details to be announced closer to launch”.
