The Sydney Dance Company will present contemporary dance masterpiece ab [intra] in Geelong next week.
Fresh from the international stages of France, including a sold-out season in Paris, Sydney Dance Company are delivering a journey through the intensity of human existence combining ambient sound and exquisite dancing in the Rafael Bonachela production.
Defined as “from within” in Latin, ab [intra] is an exploration of our primal instincts, impulses and visceral responses.
Fusing lush cello with atmospheric electronics and an ensemble of elegant dancers, this show urges you to take in the breathtaking movements and discover a new ethereal world.
The intensely commanding work is the brainchild of Sydney Dance Company’s artistic director, Rafael Bonachela. A renowned leader within the high art and popular culture space, Bonachela’s repertoire spans from hosting his work in major international galleries to collaborating with famed musicians including Kylie Minogue, Sarah Blasco, Katie Noonan, Tina Turner and The Sixteen on top of choreographing dozens of award-winning dance pieces for various companies around the world.
ab [intra] premiered in Sydney in May 2018 and has toured around Australia to rave reviews as well as Austria, Finland, Poland, Spain and France.
Audiences will not want to miss a ferociously physical and heartfelt piece that will stay with you long after the final curtain is drawn.
“Geelong Arts Centre is proud to present the G21 region with outstanding opportunities to experience world-class dance performances in the creative hub of Geelong,” Geelong Arts Centre head of programming Penny McCabe said.
Geelong Arts Centre’s Our Season 2023 is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, major artistic partner Deakin University, and innovation partner Costa Asset. Management.
ab [intra] will be performed at Costa Hall, Deakin University Geelong Waterfront campus, on May 27 at 7.30pm.
