Police in Tamworth have closed one of the town’s main roads in both directions following “an incident” in the early hours of this morning, Sunday June 18. Officers sealed off a stretch of the A51 Peelers Way in the Staffordshire town at 5.15am.
Motorists are being warned to expect diversions and delays as investigations at the scene continue. Over five hours later, the A51 opposite Borrowpit Lake was still closed.
Traffic monitoring system Inrix reported the incident at 5.15am this morning. The incident is said to have taken place between Campion Drive and Ankerdrive.

Road sealed off is next to lake and housing estate
The scene sealed off by police in Tamworth is along the main A51 road that runs past Tamworth and Lichfield Sea Cadet Unit.
Borrowpit Lake is to one side of Peeler’s Way while on the other is a housing estate around Kettlebrook.
Trees line the road leading towards the turnoff for Lichfield Road Industrial Estate.

Staffordshire Fire Service “not involved” in A51 incident
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue service has said it has not been involved in the ‘police incident’ in the A51 since the early hours of today.

A ‘police incident’ has closed the A51 Peelers Way through Tamworth since 5.15am today, Sunday June 18.
Police officers have shut the road in both directions between Campion Drive and Anker Drive, according to traffic monitoring system Inrix.
