The new hospital’s design will be informed by input from staff, consumers and the Canberra community.
From 3 July, services at Calvary Public Hospital Bruce will transition to Canberra Health Services.
Services will continue from the current hospital while the new $1 billion northside hospital is built on the existing campus at Bruce.
The new hospital is part of the increased investment in healthcare infrastructure, services and staffing required to meet the territory’s growing needs.
The ACT Government’s acquisition of Calvary Public Hospital allows for consolidation of the territory’s public hospitals into a single network run by Canberra Health Services (CHS).
This will enable better coordination of health services, more effective distribution of resources, strengthened workforce capacity and planning and, ultimately, improved health outcomes for all Canberrans.
Through an integrated system, CHS can provide more efficient and innovative services, leveraging all its hospitals and community-based services to deliver even better health care for Canberra and the surrounding region.
There will be a comprehensive transition period during which Calvary Public Hospital’s safe high-quality services will remain unaffected.
The ACT Government will then finalise the new hospital’s design, which will be informed by staff, consumer and community input to ensure it meets the territory’s healthcare needs.
