Having been a big eyecatcher on Friday, WORKFORADIME (nap), may be able to gain compensation here with a step up in trip and first-time cheekpieces both likely to help. Mary Cassatt is another that should appreciate further and Roccos Inspiration should be firmly in the mix once again after a good performance at Cork last week. Pure Notions (second reserve) could be a big player if she gets a run.
This looks like a good opportunity for THE SHORT GO to get off the mark. Henry de Bromhead’s representative should relish going back up in trip and sets a solid standard on form in what looks like a weak maiden. If Ballystone gets a run, he would be a significant danger to the selection after a narrow defeat at Cork last time and Answer To Kayf, behind Ballystone at Cork, should come on for his Rules debut and appreciate further
Connors Cross and Emily Roebling both arrive on the back of career best wins but they may have their hands full with ABSURDE who debuts for Willie Mullins. He was a promising middle-distance performer on the level in France and the trainer’s record of improving these sorts over hurdles is formidable.
This is competitive but MIGHTY TOM looks like the one to beat following his placed effort in a hot race at the Punchestown Festival last month before winning in Listed company over 2m1f here yesterday. Last time out winner The Big Chap is still relatively unexposed and he could be the main danger with the potential of him coming on from his run last month.
Having been unsuited by testing conditions on his last two outings, BUSSELTON could get back on the winning trail today on his favoured good ground. Saint Sam can be his own worst enemy by racing freely but is the top-rated in this and has to be feared. Fils D’Oudairies beat the latter over hurdles recently and is also considered.
R’Evelyn Pleasure has come a long way down the handicap but does need to improve on his recent form. Lake Chad and Politicise will appreciate the return to this trip, while two of Gavin Cromwell’s runners, Donnrua Dream and Silvertown are of interest. However, preference is for last year’s cosy winner STEALTHY TOM who is just as effective over this trip as he is over marathon banks races
Annamix has the ability to win this but his form and jumping has been in and out in the last while, so SOMPTUEUX gets the nod despite the fact that he fell at Cork last time. Fr Humphrey has been revitalised lately and it wouldn’t surprise to see him run a big race.
None of these are jumping off the page, so a chance is taken on PENELOPE’S CHARM improving enough from her debut Tipperary third. This shorter trip should be fine on pedigree. Cato’s Revenge has the form to run a big race, while Naruto and Lisnamult Lad should be involved too.
