Young harness drivers from Shepparton and Ballarat heard from key industry representatives at the first Drive for Life pilot sessions held recently.
The program has been developed to support participants to foster a long career in harness racing and plays an important part in futureproofing the industry.
The event was attended by young drivers – 25 years and under – in the Shepparton area on 8 May and Ballarat on 15 May. Drivers heard from Racing Integrity Commissioner Sean Carroll, and HRV staff General Manager Integrity Rhys Harrison, Deputy Chief Steward Grant Adams, and Senior Steward Barry Delaney.
Drive for Life program manager, Jennifer Lewis described the sessions as a success.
“Drive for Life is a fantastic initiative from Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) who have prioritised supporting our young drivers. The first sessions were engaging, and the participants were positive and left with a greater understanding of the important part they play in our industry and of the support network available. We look forward to the next session.”
The program is mandatory for all young drivers as part of licensing conditions. Another session will also be held at Bendigo on 22 May.
