Detectives have charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly drove his car at a man in Mount Isa today.
It will be alleged around midday on Dempsey Street a 66-year-old man struck another man to the arm with an iron bar. The 66-year-old man entered his vehicle and drove onto the nature strip at the other man, who was forced to jump out of the way.
At 1.30pm the man returned to the scene in his vehicle and allegedly drove directly at the other man who was standing on the nature strip. The man fell onto the bonnet and then the 66-year-old man drove into a fence.
It will be further alleged the 66-year-old man then set fire to the other man’s truck which was parked in a neighbouring yard.
The 66-year-old Winston man has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed, arson and serious obstruct.
He will appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court tomorrow.
The 54-year-old Mornington man was transported to Mount Isa Hospital where he remains with non-life-threatening leg and arm injuries.
The cab of the man’s Isuzu truck was destroyed by the fire.
The men are known to each other.
