Dos Pueblos shot a 390 and finished in 17th place the CIF-SS Division 1 Team Golf Championship at Cross Creek Golf Course in Temecula on Monday.
The Chargers, the Division 4 champions last year, received one of the four at-large spots into the D1 tournament.
“Although it is not the result we are looking for, our team was excited for the bonus golf,” said DP coach Kevin Ahlers.
Sunny Hills won the 20-team tournament with a score of 360.
Sophomore Scott Nightingale led Dos Pueblos with a 4-over par 75 on a challenging, tight Cross Creek course.
“He bounced back from a couple of tough rounds, and it was nice to see him back in full form,” said Ahlers. “Scott finished the round strong, driving the green on the par 4 10th hole.
Channel League-champion Teddy Vigna finished with a 77. He ended his round with a 30-foot birdie putt on No. 10.
“Later this week, he and San Marcos’ Jeffrey Forster are going to compete in the USGA amateur four-ball tournament in South Carolina,” said Ahlers.
Denver Douglas finished his last round at Dos Pueblos with a 77.
“He will be leaving the team next year due to his family moving to Kansas,” said Ahlers. “Denver has been an instrumental part of our teams’ success this year and we will really miss him next year. We wish him the best.”
Freshman Wyatt Gardiner shot a 79, which included a 50-foot birdie putt on No. 10 and a birdie on No. 4
Laith Reynolds and Colt Roberts rounded out DP’s scoring with 82s.
“There was a lot of great competition at this tournament, and I thought the boys were able to put together good score considering the course conditions,” said Ahlers.
