AFL: Patrick Parnell was the target of some good-natured fun from the Crows coaching staff after he taking a Mark of the Year contender against the Saints
While the Devils were outclassed by Bannockburn at the weekend, Bennett continued his brilliant start to the season which should see him in league medal contention at the end of the season.
In the 33-point loss at Victoria Park, Bennett finished with 35 disposals, 13 clearances, 12 inside 50s, 12 tackles and 167 ranking points, the most any player recorded in the Geelong and District Football League in Round 6.
Bennett’s performance followed a match winning display against Geelong West Giants a week earlier where he recorded 31 disposals, 18 clearances, 18 inside 50s and two goals.
Despite the loss, the Devils coaching staff would have been pleased to see three of their players — Bennett, Jack Hall (12 tackles) and Luke Cornwell (11) — lead the league in tackles for the weekend.
In that same game, Bannockburn big man Kieran Fulton had the most hit outs of any ruckman in the division on Saturday with 43.
Connor Jervies was the man to make the most of those opportunities with a team-high 25 disposals for the Tigers while James Hose and Luke Bowdern had 22 touches and six clearances apiece.
As Werribee Centrals handed East Geelong its first loss of the season, Michael Culliver continued to show why he’s currently among the best players in the competition.
Culliver recorded 44 disposals at 81 per cent efficiency, 13 clearances, six tackles and 162 ranking points in his side’s thrilling six-point victory.
Tyler Crennan (24 touches), Daryl Chesterman (23) and Brad Carlton (20) were the other major ball winners for Rhys Prismall’s side while John McIntyre had 26 for East.
In the same game, Justin Porter was a brick wall recording 10 intercept possessions.
Inverleigh duo Brad Surkitt and Casey Meehan were at the forefront of their side’s 135-point thumping of North Geelong with monster displays.
Meehan recorded 33 disposals and 10 clearances while Surkitt kicked three goals from his 28 touches.
Surkitt also had 12 score involvements.
Thomson big man Andrew Jarvis had an interesting outing in his side’s win against Anakie, producing a rollercoaster display.
He had 16 disposals, 12 score involvements and five free kicks against — the most of any player across the competition.
