DICKINSON — A serene Sunday morning in Dickinson turned into a distressing ordeal for a 10-year-old boy involved in a hit-and-run incident in downtown Dickinson. The incident occurred near the intersection of Sims and Villard, where pedestrians and bicyclists usually fill the sidewalks, bringing vibrancy to the area.
According to Lieutenant Mike Hanel of the Dickinson Police Department, officers swiftly responded to a report of a child on a bike being struck by a pickup truck. Witnesses in the vicinity provided valuable information, including the license plate number and a detailed description of the fleeing vehicle, aiding in the subsequent investigation.
Law enforcement’s prompt action led to the quick location and subsequent traffic stop of the pickup truck. The driver, identified as 80-year-old Alvin Wanner, of Gladstone, was cited for Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident and Driving Without Liability Insurance following the officer’s investigation.
Following the incident, the young boy was initially transported to St. Alexius CHI Hospital for immediate medical attention. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted to a hospital in Fargo for further treatment. Lieutenant Hanel reported that the boy is currently in stable condition, awaiting surgery.
