The Internet Reacts to the Reds’ New Uniforms Unveiled Over the Weekend | Sports & Recreation | Cincinnati

Over the weekend on “513 Day,” the city’s unofficial holiday for loving all things Cincinnati, the Reds unveiled a new set of uniforms to a mixed response.

The oldest team in the league asked Nike for a modern refresh when designing the team’s City Connect uniforms.

“Honoring the past is always a predominant theme for the Reds, so it was refreshing to lean into Nike’s expertise of creating team gear that expresses what today’s athletes and fans want,” said Karen Forgus, Reds senior vice president of business operations. “The Reds embraced the opportunity to showcase how this city and this team are looking forward, determined to make history their own way, with their own vision.”

The team revealed an all-black Nike design, accented by bright red piping and “Cincy” emblazoned across the chest. A black New Era baseball hat showcases the new stylized red “C” logo.

Reds fans have taken to Reddit and Twitter to weigh in on the new design, some loving the modern look, others were relived the team went with “Cincy” rather than “Cinci,” while others were concerned for the players standing in the hot sun wearing all black this summer.

Reds players will wear the Nike City Connect uniforms every Friday home game for the remainder of the 2023 season. Fans who want to match the team for Friday’s series opener against the Yankees can purchase merch at the Reds Team Shop at Great American Ball Park or online at mlbshop.com.

The Reds and Fanatics will host a City Connect event on May 20 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Findlay Market with live music, food, drinks, activities for kids and “special appearances by Reds legends.”
