A 37-year-old man was pulled from the wreckage on Hassall St at Wetherill Park by the other motorist involved in the crash about 5.20pm.
The Nissan Z50 allegedly clipped a Nissan Navara ute, sending the vehicle, and its 66-year-old driver and his family, spinning.
The Z50 then careered into the parked semi-trailer at speed, NSW Police said.
Shocking CCTV footage was captured of the moment the vehicle’s roof peeled back as far as its rear wheels, and the car became almost entirely jammed underneath the semi-trailer.
Luke Frendo, who was travelling inside the ute, initially thought the 37-year-old had perished in the crash.
“To be honest, I thought he was dead at first because he wasn’t speaking,” he said.
But when Frendo ran over to the car, he heard the motorist calling out to be saved.
“He was saying: ’Please get me out, get me out, cut the airbag’,” Frendo told 7NEWS.
“So I ripped his door open, sort of, and pulled him out.”
Frendo said the man had sustained a “real deep cut on his head”.
He was treated by responding paramedics for minor injuries and transported to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution.
No one else was injured in the crash, NSW Police said.
Frendo said the outcome was “a miracle, I reckon”.
“I’m surprised that he didn’t die. He should go buy a lottery ticket,” he said.
The 37-year-old man was issued a court notice for negligent driving, and driving during a disqualification period for the second time, NSW Police report.
He is due to appear at Fairfield Local Court on June 13, 2023.
