A mother who lost her only child in a horror crash has said has lost her purpose as his killer was jailed.
Layton Cashmore died after a crash on Hill Lane in Southampton last July.
The 14-year-old was the pillion passenger on a stolen bike when it crashed into a car.
The 17-year-old rider, who cannot be named because of his age, has been jailed for six years with a three-year extended licence. He admitted causing death by dangerous driving.
Speaking at his sentencing at Southampton Crown Court on Friday, Layton’s mother Ayesha Fernandez said her whole life changed that day.

Reading her victim impact statement, she said: “Layton entered my life when I was 19 years old, and my life became complete.
“He was my only child. I never knew that one person could fill me with so much love.
“He was a kind, thoughtful, ambitious, and absolutely hilarious. I knew I would be ok because I had him.
“From the moment I received the phone call on that day, my whole life changed.”
She added: “I have lost my purpose and the dreams I have for me and my son.
“Parents are not supposed to outlive their children. I grieve for the life Layton will never have. His life was truly taken too soon.
“He was full of life, love, and quick wit. Our family is broken and will never be the same.
“I will never hear him say the words ‘I love you ever again.’”

Prosecuting, Edward Elton read out the victim impact statement written by Layton’s father, Aaron John Cashmore.
In his statement, he said: “I feel I have lost part of me; every day is a nightmare.
“Layton is all I see in my mind and when I close my eyes. All I have left are the memories of Layton.
“He will never get the chance to have the life he should have lived. He was my first child and my only son.
“We are all broken from this. He was my hero.
“I am just so lost without him, and I will forever have a hole in my life and my heart where my boy should be.”
As reported, an application by the Echo to name Layton’s 17-year-old killer was rejected by the judge who jailed the teenager.
