July 13, 1956 – June 10, 2023
Linda Haken Hooper, 66, of Avon, NC, passed away in Florida on June 10, 2023, after a three-year struggle with cancer. Her devoted husband Basil and special friend Joanne were by her side. She was welcomed into the arms of Jesus and is no longer in pain.
Linda was a devoted, loving wife, stepmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and loyal friend. She strived to be a devoted follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Linda was a genuine friend to many and would light up a room with her beautiful smile and loving-kindness. She especially loved children and taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, midweek children’s bible study, and women’s bible study. Linda never lost that first love exuberance for Jesus and loved to worship with her hands lifted high. Linda is now doing just that in front of the throne.
A very successful sales associate with Sysco Food Corporation and Performance Food Group, she won many awards and trips but would quickly let you know that work did not define her life.
Linda and Basil recently became members of New Day Christian Church in Port Charlotte, FL, and were looking forward to serving in some capacity during their winter hiatus. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Rusty, Pastor Chris, and the many members who reached out with visits, prayers, love, and food.
Actively involved in the Echo White German Shepherd Rescue, she fostered and served as administrator. The family expresses a special thanks to the many friends in Echo who reached out during her illness.
Linda was born in Lincoln, NE, into an Air Force family and moved frequently. Her favorite place was Hawaii, where she met Mimi, who became her special friend throughout life. After her father’s last deployment at Langley Air Force Base, she discovered the Outer Banks and fell in love with the area.
In 1990, she met the love of her life, Basil, and they were married for 32 years. Ups and downs, richer and poorer, sickness and health, their love grew deeper. We say goodbye for now with deep sorrow, but we will meet again. As Linda stated in a love letter, “I will introduce you to my new friends, Paul, Peter, David, Mary, Ruth, Job- just to name a few.” Some of Linda’s last words were 1 Corinthians 13:13: “and now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love”. Linda truly believed and exhibited this scripture.
Left to cherish her memory is her dearly loved husband, Basil Hooper, Jr., her many family and friends, and her beloved fur baby Blitz. Romans 8:28
Linda will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at St. John United Methodist Church. Private burial will take place in the family cemetery in Avon, NC.
Twiford Funeral Homes, Outer Banks is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.TwifordFH.com.
