PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared June 24 as a special non-working day in Manila to mark its 452nd founding anniversary.
It is fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration, the proclamation read.
Citywide Clean-Up Drive
The city government, in observance of Manila Day or “Araw ng Maynila,” invited everyone to join the Citywide Clean-Up Drive last June 15.
Everyone was encouraged to clean alongside their community for a more peaceful and healthy environment for the future.
The Manila Film Festival 2023
A total of 19 awards were given during the awards night of The Manila Film Festival at the Metropolitan Theater last June 19.
Citywide Tree Planting
For sustainable and magnificent Manila, the City Government of Manila had a simultaneous tree planting activity last June 16 in the following areas: Arroceros Forest Park; Roxas Blvd. Service Rd. in front of Plaza Rajah Sulayman; San Nicolas Triangle in front of San Miguel Yamamura; Abad Santos Ave Center Island (Hermosa St. — Solis St.); Lacson Ave. Center Island (SM San Lazaro — Dimasalang Rd.); Lacson Ave. Center Island (Dimasalang Rd. — Fajardo St.); Plaza Dilao, Quirino Ave. cor. Canonigo St., Paco; and R. Magsaysay Center Island (Santol St. — V. Mapa St. — SM Sta. Mesa).
Manila June Bride 2023
A total of 160 couples had their first kiss as husbands and wives during the sponsored civil and church weddings last June 17.
Couples of different ages finally had the chance to legally seal the deal through the help of the City Government of Manila, headed by Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan.
In the church wedding held at San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Lacuna-Pangan and Vice Mayor John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto were the principal sponsors of 60 couples from different parts of Manila.
A total of 100 couples tied the knot in the civil wedding held at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
All couples were provided with all necessary items needed during the wedding, such as rings, veil, marriage contracts and its registration, as well as the venue of the wedding and reception.
Wreath laying ceremony for Rizal
Lacuna-Pangan led the wreath laying ceremony in honor of the 162nd birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal. The Mayor was joined by Philippine Navy Capt. Anthony Sibayan and Miss Manila candidates.
Representatives from National Parks Development Committee, National Historical Commission of the Philippines, The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Mason of the Philippines, Order of the Knights of Rizal, and Chairmen from surrounding barangays also offered flowers to the national hero.
Rampa Manila 2023
Filipino culture meets passion for fashion.
Rampa Manila featured the works of Michael Leyva, Jo Rubio, Marlon Tuazon, Puey Quiñones, and Albert Andrada. This was the first fashion event of the City of Manila.
City service loyalty awardees
The City of Manila awarded employees who have provided their services in the city government in this year’s City Service Loyalty Awards last June 21.
The awards ceremony recognized employees who have stayed with the city government for 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years.
The 576 government workers are comprised of 176 employees with 25 years of service, 247 staff for 30 years, 123 personnel for 35 years, 17 for 40 years, 12 employees with above 40 years and for compulsory retirement, and one employee with a total of 45 years of experience in the City Government of Manila.
The local government employees of Manila were awarded with a certificate and cash gift for their dedication in their service to the public.
Gawad Manileño
About 40 were honored for their contribution to the development of their community in their respective fields at the Gawad Manileño 2023 last June 22.
Lacuna-Pangan and Nieto led in giving trophies to companies and people who have contributed to the growth of the city.
Some of the recipients of the award were the actor who has already received several awards from abroad Joaquin Andre Domagoso; veteran broadcaster Victor De Leon Lima in the field of mass media; and former Mayor Jose Lito Atienza, who received the Gat Andres Bonifacio Award.
The University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe and singer Daryl Ong also entertained the audience.
Grand coronation night of Miss Manila 2023
A new queen will emerge. Find out who amongst the 20 Woman of Worth candidates will be the first to wear the Pearl of the Orient crown as Miss Manila 2023. The event was held last June at the iconic Metropolitan Theater.
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Rayver Cruz hosted the said event, which was live-streamed via the Manila Public Information Facebook page. TV airing is on GMA Channel 7 on June 25 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

Lacuna-Pangan will lead the wreath laying activities for the 452nd anniversary of the City of Manila celebration at Rajah Sulayman along Roxas Boulevard.
There will also be Civil and Military Parade in Moriones, Tondo, and Grand Copa De Manila, in Malvar, Batangas.
ICTSI thrives in Manila

Attached to her track record of public service that spans almost three decades are several accomplishments.
As director of Manila Department of Social Welfare from 2013 to 2015, she focused on programs and projects alleviating the plight of the city’s underprivileged and socially vulnerable sector, low-income families, homeless, informal settlers, abandoned children, children in conflict with the law, out-of-school youth, juvenile offenders, elders, people with disabilities, and disaster-stricken families.
With Lacuna-Pangan’s vast experience as physician at the Public Health Center of the Manila Health Department and Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, Domagoso entrusted her functions pertinent to healthcare services and other medical-related matters ensuring that the health and wellbeing of Manileños are taken care of.
