A bad weekend on roads in Cedar Rapids ended with a multiple-vehicle accident early Sunday morning.
KCRG reports that just before 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, emergency officials received a call of an accident in the 2100 block of Williams Blvd. Southwest. When officers arrived they found two damaged vehicles and five occupants. An investigation into the crash uncovered that a Dodge Caliber had been traveling eastbound on Williams Blvd. when it spun out of control, according to KCRG. It then struck a Toyota Rav 4 that was headed west.
The 23-year-old driver of the Dodge Caliber was pronounced dead at the scene. KCRG reports that a 29-year-old passenger inside that same vehicle was transferred to a local hospital and later died of injuries sustained in the crash. Three people in the Rav 4 sustained serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Identities of all involved are being withheld at this time. Cedar Rapids police are urging anyone with information or video of the accident to contact them immediately.
