Amamoor residents had to make the best of their lot last Friday, when maintenance on the town’s water supply infrastructure force Gympie Regional Council to turn off the taps from the early morning.
But council staff moved quickly to make sure there was still water to drink, one way or another.
“Due to damage caused to the water mains at the Amamoor Reservoir, currently there is no town water supply in Amamoor,” a council announcement said at the time.
So the council put out a public information announcement that it would be supplying free bottled drinking water to any thirsty residents or visitors, at the Village Green Cafe (at the Amamoor Rattler station) from 10:00am.
And so it was, as residents gratefully acknowledged.
The water was back on by about noon, with a council warning that there could be some discolouration initially after the repair job on the town’s main pipes.
The council recommended that residents “turn on an exterior tap closest to their meter until the water clears up.”
“We thank residents for their patience!” the announcement said.
Residents appeared to take the incident in their stride as they made the most of things at the Village Green, on a beautiful Mary Valley day.
Among those keeping calm and carrying on were resident Jenny Spillman, who took her place at the Village Green to enjoy the morning in good company, and surrounded by delicious morning tea delights.
Treats included home made snacks and, most important of all, free bottled water.
