A man has been charged five months after a Melbourne nurse’s car was allegedly stolen while she was at work in a COVID ward.
St Vincent’s nurse Lucy was at work on December 21 when someone allegedly snatched her handbag containing her car keys from her locker in the staff area.
A short time late, police allege her vehicle was stolen from the staff carpark.

Four days later, on Christmas Day, her car was recovered in Ballarat.
“Our nurses work so hard and so selflessly and to have this happen on the edge of Christmas after such a busy year, it’s terribly disappointing for Lucy, her colleagues, and everyone at St Vincent’s,” Acute Services acting executive director Dean Jones said at the time.
On Wednesday, police executed a warrant at Newington in Ballarat and then arrested a man nearby.
The 40-year-old Newington man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, theft and drive while disqualified.
He has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 28.
