International strip club chain Spearmint Rhino is set to take over the former Rocket Club on Broad Street. Plans were announced this morning as Birmingham City Council approved the renewal of the sexual entertainment venue (SEV) licence.
Spearmint Rhino already has one venue in Birmingham on Hagley Road and another two in Leicester and London. It also has one in Australia and many more in the US where it was founded in 1989.
Birmingham City Council received an application from the landlord of the former Rocket Club at 258 Broad Street to retain the SEV licence. At this morning’s hearing, plans were announced for the licence to be transferred to Spearmint Rhino, the new tenants of the venue, once the commercial deal is completed.

A lawyer acting on behalf of the landlord said: “The landlord wants its commercial space occupied as soon as possible. It’s no secret that a tenant has been found for this unit – it’s an experienced SEV operator, we have the lawyer representing Spearmint Rhino in the room.”
The Rocket Club first opened in the early 2000s but was seized by bailiffs in November 2022. The venue has not been used since.
Documents show the new Spearmint Rhino could open between the hours of 10am and 6am, Monday to Sunday. Neither West Midlands Police nor any local ward councillors had any objections to the application.
