THE Mount Gambier Golf Club hosted 27 women last Wednesday to compete for the June monthly medal, in conjunction with the third round of the Handicap Championship, the third round of the International Bowl, putting and the first round of the Winter Salver.
The Course played hard, with tee-blocks set back and pin placements in difficult positions.
Helen Heaver claimed the prestigious monthly medal, with consistent splits of 51/51 off the stick.
Helen Gregory was the unlucky player to lose Heaver on a count-back.
Gregory won Division 1 with an even 45/45 off the stick for 90-16-74 nett, which included five pars.
Faye Mainwaring kept it in the family as she came second to her sister Helen Gregory, also with 45/45.
Mainwaring played the last three holes to par and registered 90-14-76 nett.
Heaver continued on her winning way to take out first place in Division 2 with her 102-28-74 nett.
runner-up in Division 2 was acting captain Lizzie Clements with 109-28-81.
Her score could have been much better had she not had a disastrous 11th ho1e.
Her splits were also 51/51 off the stick.
There were five balls given out in the run-down and went to Kathy Ewer, Marie Douglas, Di O’Donnell, Carol Smith and Bernie Jennings.
The speciality prize winners were for the second shot on the par 5, first hole and went to A Grade’s Bernie Jennings, B Grade’s Kate McCormick and C Grade’s Libby Altschwager.
The pro shot on the par 3 eighth hole and winning three balls was Lizzie Clements.
The June putting competitions went to Gregory with only 27 putts.
This week will be the second round of the Hudson Plumbing and Roofing stableford competition.
