The Gold Coast SUNS are bringing more football to the Top End with the Round 10 VFL clash against Footscray Bulldogs to be played at Darwin’s TIO Stadium on Saturday, May 27.
The match will be played as a curtain raiser to the Sir Doug Nicholls Round match between the SUNS and Western Bulldogs – the first of two AFL matches the SUNS will host in Darwin in the coming weeks.
With eight players with links to the Northern Territory on the club’s AFL list, the double header will provide an opportunity for Territorians to see more of their locally produced GC SUNS stars in action.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to take both our AFL and VFL squads to Darwin to play at TIO Stadium,” SUNS General Manager of Football Performance Wayne Campbell said.
“The partnership with the Northern Territory is a significant one for the club from a player development perspective and provides a pathway to the elite level for young players in the Territory.
“Having eight players with links to the Northern Territory having the opportunity to play in front of friends and families is fantastic. We’re looking forward to spending the week engaged in the local community and doing our best to return home with three wins.”
The SUNS currently sit on top on the VFL ladder following an unbeaten start to the season.
First bounce in the VFL is at 3pm ACST before the AFL match at 6.55pm
Gates open at 2.30pm, entry to the VFL is included with all valid tickets for the AFL clash.
