While rain claimed the majority of the local racing programs Friday and Saturday night, fans did get an opportunity to see their favorite drivers turn laps.
On Thursday, Brookfield Speedway, located south of Utica in Madison County, hosted its second race of its five-race schedule with Derrick McGrew Jr. taking home the victory over opening night winner Blaine Klinger in the 25-lap 602 Crate Sportsman feature.
Kenny Gates held off Josh Coonradt for his second Pro Stock win in as many races this season at Brookfield, while Damien Ward picked up the overall victory in the 15-lap 4-cylinder feature in which Hayleigh Gates was declared the single-cam 4-cylinder winner.
Dan Slosek won the 15-lap All-Star Slingshot feature over Paul Holic and Ayden Goodier topped Blake Banek, Anya Sarpriacone, Sullivan Dickey and Logan Carter for the Junior Slingshot feature win.
McGrew, whose plans to compete in his second Menards ARCA Series race Saturday changed, made the trip to Albany-Saratoga Speedway Friday night and placed fifth in his sportsman qualifier.
The Great Race Place managed to get the heat races in before losing the track to the rain.
Jack Speshock, Derek Bornt and Justin Stone earned their spots in the modified feature with their heat race victories, while Andrew Buff, Taylor Wason, Scott Duell and Craig Wholey picked up the sportsman heat race victories. Buff backed up his heat race win by claiming the victory in the added dash.
Kim Duel and Rich Crane grabbed the checkers for the Pro Stock heat races, while Chris Stalker and Patrick Cram Jr. won the Street Stock qualifiers and Steve Burch, Dan Sequin and John Santolin won the Limited Sportsman heats.
It was announced that the remainder of Friday’s race program will be run as a midweek show on Aug. 9.
General admission raincheck tickets will be honored for the regular Friday night race programs on June 23, July 7, 14 and 28. The pit wrist bands will be honored for the same Friday night shows or the Aug. 9 midweek makeup racing.
Utica-Rome Speedway also was ready to race Friday night with cars in the pits and fans in the stands before the rain made the track unraceable.
The scheduled second leg of the Thunder on the Thruway Series events were rescheduled for this Friday instead. A makeup date is yet to be announced for the scheduled slingshot event.
After going the entire 2022 race season without a rainout, Fonda Speedway was forced to cancel for the third time this season due to inclement weather.
The Track of Champions will move ahead this week with the regularly scheduled Bill Lake Modular Homes Fan Appreciation Night featuring $5 grandstand admission and a pre-race Meet and Greet.
Lebanon Valley Speedway’s Saturday night race program was also lost to the rain.
The Valley will host the Rod Fifield Sportsman Memorial this Saturday as part of the regularly scheduled race card as they prepare for the annual Eve of Destruction on June 27.
