Territorians and their furry friends are urged to take heed of some health advice as temperatures drop across the NT this weekend.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Sally Cutter said overnight temperatures in the Top End were set to drop as sea breezes ease off, bringing with them less moisture.
“Everybody probably feels cold, because it’s much less than what we have been seeing,” Ms Cutter said.
“Alice Springs got down to 1.1, Yulara was 0.3 this morning, quite chilly.”
Ms Cutter said Darwin’s minimum temperatures would drop slightly on Saturday night before rising again throughout the coming week.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Darwin’s temperature will drop as low as 18 before rocketing to 32 throughout the day.
Meanwhile, Palmerston will drop to 16 and reach 33, and Katherine’s range will fall between 10 and 31 on Sunday.
Alice Springs will drop to 5 overnight before rising to 22 on Sunday.
Ms Cutter said the midday sun in the Top End would be hot and dry over the weekend, with a “pretty high” UV.
“Remember to slip, slop, slap, wrap and seek shade,” she said.
“If you’re standing out in the sun all day, you’re going to feel much hotter.”
In light of the cooler weather across the country, vet Tara Morris said it was important to keep pets warm.
“Just like humans, these conditions can cause pets to develop dry, itchy, cracked and flaky skin,” she said.
Dr Morris said pet owners could keep their furry friends warm and healthy by brushing their coats regularly to distribute natural oils, keeping their home humidified, avoiding too-regular baths, and moisturising their skin.
