Acclaimed Grammy award-winning rapper and producer Hit-Boy is set to headline Pasadena’s 15th annual Juneteenth celebration Saturday while a number of other Juneteenth events are planned across the city during the day and evening.
In addition to Hit-Boy’s performance, this year’s Juneteenth celebration in Pasadena will feature an array of family-friendly activities and exhibits. Among these are an art exhibit from the Alkebulan Cultural Center, live music by Luv From Abuv, a Juneteenth history presentation by Octavia’s Bookshelf, and arts & crafts with the Armory Center for the Arts.
Saturday afternoon and evening, the NAACP Pasadena Branch hosts a Juneteenth Roller Jam at Pasadena City Hall.
The City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department’s events are scheduled to place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Robinson Park, located at 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave.
Juneteenth commemorates the effective end of slavery in the United States. Two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, news reached Texas and, upon learning they were free, former slaves immediately began celebrating with prayer, feasting, song and dance. Juneteenth is now a day to reflect and celebrate African American history and culture.
Hit-Boy, known for his innovative and progressive beats, has made a significant impact in the music industry. With a career spanning over a decade, he has collaborated with a plethora of iconic artists including Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nas, Travis Scott, and Beyoncé. In addition to his production credits, Hit-Boy is also a talented rapper who has been featured on tracks by renowned artists such as will.i.am and Wale.
Having made his mark with his appearance at the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards Pre-Telecast at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles on February 10, 2013, Hit-Boy continues to be a force in the music industry.
