Police are desperately searching for a mum who made an anonymous call to triple-0 after giving birth before hanging up the phone.
An unknown woman called police from a phone box located in Tea Tree Gully – in Adelaide’s northeast – at about 12.35am on Friday.
Police said she was in a “distressed state” and told the operator she had just given birth.
However, she hung up the phone before police could obtain any more details.
“Police have grave concerns for her welfare given the information she has provided in this call and believe she is in need of urgent medical assistance,” an SA police spokesman said.
Police have searched the area surrounding the phone box with assistance from the SES but have not been able to locate any physical evidence.
Investigators have conducted extensive inquiries but have not been able to identify the woman.
They are asking for the woman to contact triple-0 (000) again so they can confirm that she and her baby are safe.
Anyone who can identify the woman or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage in the vicinity of the phone box is being urged to contact police on 1800 333 000.
