Two guns were recovered and 3 people are facing charges after a Vancouver Police pursuit crossed into Portland.
On Thursday, June 15, 2023 at about 6:15p.m., North Precinct officers were notified that Vancouver Police Department officers were pursuing a driver into Portland Police jurisdiction, and that the occupants were wanted in a shooting case. North Precinct officers assisted with the pursuit, including making efforts to employ intervention techniques. The suspect vehicle crossed the Steel Bridge and crashed into a Tri Met MAX train near Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street (photo). North Precinct, Central Precinct, Focused Intervention Team, and K9 officers converged and assisted Vancouver Police with taking 3 people into custody. No one was injured on the MAX train, however it was disabled by the force of the crash and passengers had to be transferred to another transport.
Officers recovered two firearms that were thrown out the of the vehicle’s windows during the pursuit (photo). The firearms were damaged when they were tossed. The firearms were taken as evidence.
The vehicle used by the suspects was a black 2016 Kia Optima stolen out of Portland June 11. The stolen vehicle was recovered.
The suspects were charged with crimes committed in Multnomah County. Zachary A. Bruce, 27, of Portland, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. His charges were:

166.272 Unlawful possession of machine guns, certain short-barreled firearms and firearms silencers (B Felony)
811.540 (1)(a) Attempting to Elude Police while driving a Motor Vehicle (C Felony)
164.135 Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (C Felony)
819.300 Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (C Felony)
811.140 Reckless Driving (A Misdemeanor)
A 16-year-old male from Vancouver was booked into the Donald E Long Juvenile Detention Center for:
164.135 Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (C Felony)
PCC 14A.60.010 Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public (Portland City Code)
166.250 Unlawful Possession of Firearms (A Misdemeanor)
164.272 Unlawful Entry into Vehicle (A Misdemeanor)
166.023 Disorderly Conduct in the First Degree (A Misdemeanor)
17-year-old male from Vancouver was booked into the Donald E Long Juvenile Detention Center for:
164.135 Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (C Felony)
819.300 Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (C Felony)
166.250 Unlawful Possession of Firearms (A Misdemeanor)
PCC 14A.60.010 Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public (Portland City Code)
