Charges have been filed against two Broome County men following a physical altercation that erupted after a concert at a Union-Endicott elementary school.
Authorities said Broome County sheriff’s deputies were sent to George F. Johnson Elementary School shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday.
According to a sheriff’s office news release, 44-year-old Stephen Donnelly of Vestal and 42-year-old Lance Scott of Kirkwood were involved in a verbal dispute that turned physical.
The incident happened in front of the main entrance of the school, which is located on Taft Avenue in Endwell. It occurred as a concert featuring fourth grade and fifth grade students was concluding.
Investigators determined Scott allegedly overheard Donnelly yelling at his own mother near the school entrance and confronted him. A physical altercation then developed.
The news release indicated a school resource officer and bystanders separated Donnelly and Scott.
A review of school surveillance camera recordings showed that before the dispute with Scott, Donnelly had yelled obscenities and derogatory remarks at a woman in a parking lot.
According to the news release, Donnelly has been charged with two counts of harassment and two counts of disorderly conduct. Scott was charged with one count of disorderly conduct. Both were issued appearance tickets of Union town court.
In the release issued late Friday afternoon, Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar said: “Fight of any kind on school grounds, especially by parents, will not be tolerated.”
