In early 2023, What Now Los Angeles reported the unfortunate closure of the woman-owned, gin-focused bar Genever at 3123 West Beverly Boulevard.
After facing complications with the space’s landlord, Patricia Perez, Roselma Samala, and Christine Sumiller — founders of the crowd-funded Filipinotown watering hole — proclaimed plans to reopen in a different capacity.
“Our goal is to leverage [our Type 48 liquor license] as an investment in a woman-of-color-owned business,” said Samala. “We don’t know what that looks like right now, but we feel that’s something we can contribute to the community.”
While it’s presently unknown what’s next for the Genever team, it appears its former space — and the surrounding addresses — has found new occupants in restaurateurs Dustin Lancaster and Tyler Bell.
Per a recently-filed ABC application for the address, Grafton Street Bottle Shop, LLC will take over the expansive corner.
In a brief exchange with WNLA, Bell disclosed that he and Lancaster had only recently taken possession of the property, adding that the duo had nothing yet to share and are currently “working on the details.”
Together, Lancaster and Bell are responsible for big-time LA joints like El Condor and L & E Oyster Bar, amongst many others. It’s safe to say, the incoming establishment will be nothing short of exceptionally well-considered.
