Police are seeking urgent assistance to help identify an anonymous caller who dialled triple-0 from a public phone booth in a “distressed state” shortly after giving birth to a child.
Sky News host Peta Credlin has discussed Victorian youth crime with Victoria Shadow Police Minister Brad Battin.
“20,000 alleged incidents involving ten to seventeen-year-olds having occurred, now that’s a decade-long high,” Ms Credlin said.
An Adelaide woman – identity unknown – made a call to Triple Zero just after midnight on Friday, reportedly in a shaken-up condition seeking help from authorities.
Police say the female was “in a distressed state” as she told the operator she had just become a mother but hung up the phone before outlining her exact circumstances.
The call was made about 12.35 am from a public phone booth located on the corner of Shelley Street and North East Road in the outer north-eastern Adelaide suburb of Tea Tree Gully.
She did not reveal any details about her name or address.
“Police have grave concerns for her welfare given the information she has provided in this call and believe she is in need of urgent medical assistance,” SAPOL said in a statement.
“Investigators have conducted extensive enquiries but have not been able to identify the woman at this time.”
Officers have scoured the areas surrounding the phone booth extensively, in conjunction with the State Emergency Service, however no evidence has been located so far.
