Former Northampton Town centre-half Adams relocated to Weymouth 18 months ago for family reasons.
After spells in management with Wellingborough and Bedford, plus assistant gigs at Biggleswade and St Ives, he took a break from the sport.
However, the under-23s project at Weymouth has tempted the UEFA A licence coach back to work.
He told Echosport: “What attracted me? The chance to work for my local club, definitely.

“Weymouth’s a big club. Whenever I’ve come down here, playing or assisting against Weymouth, it’s a proper non-League game.
“From the Midlands, it’s like going to Nuneaton or Tamworth. You know you’re going to have 1,000-plus watching and you’re going to raise that bar.
“The adrenaline gets going and Weymouth’s a sleeping giant. It’s well-run behind the scenes and there’s a lot of volunteers.
“Without blowing smoke up the gaffer (Bobby Wilkinson), it’s a chance to work closely in that environment with his staff.
“I did watch the 23s a couple of times last year. There’s some brilliant talent. But also, to build something, the building blocks or presenting players locally into the club.”
Adams will be tasked with improving the under-23s’ record, having finished a distant second behind rivals and treble-winners Dorchester Town in the Hampshire Combination and Development League Division West last season.
The 23s have already begun training and have arranged six pre-season friendlies, starting with a big test against Wessex League side Bournemouth Poppies at Redlands on Wednesday, July 12.
