BUSINESSES, students and interested community members can explore the capabilities of drones and their wide range of applications, together with other emerging technologies, during the Digitrek Regional Roadshow scheduled for the Darling Downs and South West Queensland this month.
The free, interactive workshops will showcase the career and business opportunities that can be harnessed through cutting-edge technology, while demystifying AI and providing practical tools and tips to protect business from scams that can impact their operations and customers.
Held across four days, the Digitrek Regional Roadshow will commence with a launch event in Roma on the evening of Monday 22 May, with day one on Tuesday 23 May at TAFE Queensland’s Roma campus, followed by day two on Wednesday 24 May in Chinchilla, day three on Thursday 25 May at the Kingaroy campus, and culminating on day four on Friday 26 May at the Toowoomba campus.
“Digital skills are required in just about every job of the future, including traditional trades. In today’s workforce we’re seeing this already; mechanics use diagnostic applications, builders access project management and information modelling tools, while hairdressers use reservation and customer management systems,” said Jenni Butler, TAFE Queensland General Manager of the South West Region.
“In many industries, digital technology is playing an increasingly important role in everyday tasks, from inventory management and production processes, to patient care, precision farming and livestock health.
Understanding how to use digital tools and technologies can improve workplace efficiency, productivity and safety, as well as help businesses to remain competitive and relevant in a rapidly changing digital landscape.
“Digitrek is a great opportunity for locals to hear first-hand from industry experts about new and emerging technologies, as well as witness the spectacular racing abilities of the Army Drone Racing Team,” Butler said.
Reaching speeds of more than 200km/h, Captain of the Australian Army Drone Racing Team, Sapper Alex Brown, said the Australian Army Drone Racing Team were looking forward to highlighting not only the action packed aspects of the sport, but the other skills required to be a drone pilot including coding, building and problem-solving skills.
“Drone racing is an exciting sport that is fun, inclusive and widely accessible due to the low-cost of equipment and first person ‘pilot’ view of the race action,” Sapper Brown said.
“Anyone can be a drone racer! Our drone racing pilots are all members of the Defence Force and are employed in a diverse range of jobs from explosives technicians, drivers to engineers.”
Two streams will be available at each Digitrek event, one specifically designed for high schools students hosted by IntegratedSTEM, and the other for businesses and interested community members, facilitated by TAFE Queensland educators, in partnership with Fujitsu.

Enabled through funding from the State of Queensland Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy, TAFE Queensland has worked closely with industry to develop sessions that offer both practical insight and direct application to regional and remote communities.
Digitrek Regional Roadshow participants will unpack concepts, problem solve and learn new tech skills to open up a world of career and business possibilities.
Participants will also receive the opportunity to access a 6-month subscription to Digitrek’s Go-1 online learning platform, featuring hundreds of online digital micro-credentials and courses.
Digitrek Regional Roadshow will be followed by #Digitrek @FarmFest, on Tuesday 6 to Thursday 8 June, where the team at BOP Industries, in partnership with TAFE Queensland, will provide hands-on and immersive tech experiences, where visitors can create, contribute and experience robotics, augmented reality and cyber problems in fun and engaging ways.
There has never been a better time to learn about digital careers and opportunities, with demand for skills at an all-time high.
The Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy’s Digital Professional Workforce Action Plan is working to supply an additional 10,000 digital professionals in Queensland by 2024.
