The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an eye-watering $100m for next Thursday’s draw after this week’s draw failed to produce a division one winner for the $60m prize.
Draw 1414 on Thursday, June 22, marks the first time in 2023 that the jackpot has climbed to such a figure and will be the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game so far this year.
It will be the sixth time in Powerball’s 27-year history that such a sum has been up for grabs.
The Lott spokesman James Eddy urged keen participants to get their tickets ahead of time.
“As this is the largest lottery jackpot we’ve seen in Australia since December of 2022, we’re expecting it to be busy in-store and online in the lead-up to next Thursday’s draw,” he said.
The lottery expects around half of the adult Australian population to purchase a ticket.
In times of deepening economic hardship it’s easy to imagine why.
“We’re sure most Powerball players are already dreaming about what they’d do if they won a slice of this massive jackpot next week,” Mr Eddy said.
“The holiday of a lifetime, immediate retirement, your perfect home and all your other dreams could be a reality.”
Last week’s draw produced four division two winners who each took home $280,009.50, bringing the total prize money taken out by division two to nine winners on Thursday to around $40.2m.
This week’s winning Powerball numbers were 20, 11, 13, 9, 2, 25 and 31, and the Powerball number was 2.
Anyone keen to enter next week’s Powerball must purchase their ticket before 7.30pm AEST on Thursday, June 22.
